The School of Tourism Sciences and Design aims to develop human resources who can tackle various issues in the tourism industry, with proper understanding of the radical social change and shared values on a global scale, by utilizing various knowledge in the humanities, social and natural science fields, also, design new value of tourism while being proactive to Society 5.0 and new normal lifestyle and international tourism-oriented country of multi-district cooperation.

We evaluate academic skills in a multidimensional way. In Liberal Arts-oriented, Math, or General Questions are given, as well as assessing basic academic ability, Japanese Language and English skills. In Science-oriented, English tests are given, as well as assessing basic academic ability, Math and Science skills. Also, upon application, applicants can set the other school within the College of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation as their “second choice.” Successful applicants are announced by each department.

Liberal Art Education Division [IKKATSU] Exam evaluates basic academic skills, English skills, comprehension, ability to think logically, ability to express themselves. Science Education Division [IKKATSU] Exam evaluates basic math & English skills and physics or chemistry skills. Those admitted through [IKKATSU] Admission will belong to the School of General Education, in the Institute of Advanced Professional Development in Teacher Education for the first year, then will be transferred based on the student’s preference, academic achievements, etc.

In addition to emphasizing basic academic skills, students are evaluated through interview tests (including presentations) in a multifaceted and comprehensive manner to assess their communication abilities, motivation to study, and abilities and qualities necessary for learning at the university.

- In the Special Admission, “I” refers to the entrance examination which does not require the Common Test for University Admissions, and “II” refers to the entrance examination which requires the Common Test for University Admissions.
- 40 out of 55 initial enrollment capacity for the School of Tourism Sciences and Design and 60 out of 80 initial enrollment capacity for the School of Smart Technology and Innovation (tentative name) had applied for “regions that contribute to the realization of attractive local universities in the 5th year of Reiwa to increase the capacity of national universities, but since this was not approved, “the enrollment capacity of both schools will be reduced to 20”. In addition, we are planning to change (increase) the enrollment capacity in the selection of enrollees after the 6th year of Reiwa.
Kanazawa University has discontinued using the second schedule examination since the admission for 2021, and has implemented a new admission system to accept more diverse students.
Our educational goal is to develop human resources with “Kanazawa University Brand,” who would actively fulfill their missions in the international community, play major roles in the knowledge-based society, and always take on challenges without fear.
In order to achieve this goal, we have defined the “Kanazawa University Global Standard” (KUGS), which consists of six skills.
Eligible applicants for “KUGS Admission” are (1) high school students, etc. who have taken the “High School/University Articulation Program” provided by Kanazawa University, submitted both reports assigned by the program and through exploratory learning or activities with problem awareness at high school and other places that have been evaluated according to KUGS criteria, with the results that meet the criteria; or (2) those who have completed the first stage of the Global Science Campus (GSC) scheme (i.e. those who have completed the training program by the GSC program offered by universities after the first screening before the second screening).
At the entrance exam, based on the admission policies of the school applied for, applicants will be evaluated by their “independence,” “cooperativeness,” etc. and be screened based on their abilities, aptitude and enthusiasm.
Special Talent (CHOZEN) Admission has 3 selection categories: (1) A-lympiad selection I; (2) A-lympiad selection II, and (3) CHOZEN literature selection. Those who won specified awards at “A-lympiad Math competition” or “CHOZEN Literature Award” will be eligible. In the exam, through interviews and essays, their abilities, aptitude, and enthusiasm will be evaluated based on the admission policies of the school applied for.
